The lower jaw&#8217;s good function is ensured by the TMJ. TMJ features an articular disc between the two bony surfaces, similar to the spinal vertebra. Ligaments and surrounding muscles keep this disc in its normal position. The TMJ is in close proximity to a branch of the trigeminal nerve. Chewing and jaw movement can be uncomfortable and difficult as a result of injury or wear and strain to this joint.<\/p><p>TMJ Syndrome is characterized by recurrent headaches. TMJ problems are frequently caused by whiplash injuries. An accurate health history, a physical examination of the head and neck, a radiographic examination, and an oral examination are all part of the TMJ assessment.<\/p><p>The causal issues are addressed in treatment. We create intra-oral appliances that support the jaw during the day and at night. A history of your trauma will also be attained, especially those relating to your head or neck. Questions will also be asked about you symptoms, especially any problems with pain or your jaw. This will include details about the nature and duration of these symptoms.<\/p><p>For a TMJ problem a physical examination will likely include:<\/p><div class=\"box_list\"><ul><li><i class=\"fa fa-angle-right\"><\/i>\u00a0Postural exam to discover any musculoskeletal problems that either contribute to or are the result of TMJ problems. This includes scoliosis, lower back pain and short leg syndrome, among others.<\/li><li><i class=\"fa fa-angle-right\"><\/i>\u00a0Functional examinations to evaluate swallowing, breathing and chewing among others.<\/li><li><i class=\"fa fa-angle-right\"><\/i>\u00a0Sleep disorders screening to evaluate if sleep apnea is present and further diagnosis is required.<\/li><li><i class=\"fa fa-angle-right\"><\/i>\u00a0Dental examination to evaluate the shape of the dental arches, tooth wear or fractures, missing teeth, existing dental restorations or other clues.<\/li><li><i class=\"fa fa-angle-right\"><\/i>\u00a0Neurologic examination to evaluate for nerve damage that may be related to your symptoms.<\/li><li><i class=\"fa fa-angle-right\"><\/i>\u00a0TMJ examination to look at the ranges of motion, gait, speed and smoothness of jaw movement. Additionally, the TM joints will be checked for internal derangement, joint inflammation, pain and the presence of joint sounds.<\/li><li><i class=\"fa fa-angle-right\"><\/i>\u00a0Joint Vibrational Analysis, a non-invasive technology that records the vibrations made by joint tissues during movement.
